The images may support the evaluation of pelvic structures according to the indication you received. The scope depends on the clinical question, image quality and each patient's circumstances.
If you are unsure whether you need a pelvic or transvaginal ultrasound, you do not have to decide alone. Share your medical order or request guidance before booking.
An ultrasound captures images at a particular point in time. It does not replace a clinical assessment or, on its own, explain every symptom.
For some abdominal pelvic ultrasounds, you may be asked to have a full bladder because it can help certain structures be seen more clearly. The team will tell you how much liquid to drink and when to drink it.
Do not assume that every ultrasound requires the same preparation. If a condition makes it difficult for you to retain fluids or follow this instruction, let us know in advance.
Gel is applied to the lower abdomen, and a transducer is moved gently over the skin. We will explain the position you need to be in, and you can tell us about any tenderness.
Bring your medical order, if you have one, as well as any related previous reports or images. These records provide context, although they do not replace the current test.
We will explain how you will receive the report and, when applicable, the images. Findings should be considered alongside your medical history, symptoms and clinical assessment.
If the report suggests that further evaluation is needed, the next steps are discussed individually; they are not determined solely by an isolated image.
