When a gynecology consultation may be helpful
You can book because of pain, unusual bleeding, changes in discharge, itching, cycle changes, contraceptive questions, menopausal symptoms or simply because you want to discuss preventive care.
You do not need to know which test you need. The consultation is the appropriate starting point when your main goal is to explain what is happening and receive professional guidance.
What your consultation includes
The visit includes a conversation about your reason for attending, a review of relevant medical and gynecologic history, an individual medical assessment and an explanation of reasonable next steps.
A physical or gynecologic examination is only performed when it may add useful information, after the professional explains it and asks for your consent.
Cytology, HPV testing, laboratory tests, ultrasounds, colposcopy, devices and procedures are not automatically included. If one is considered appropriate, its purpose and price will be explained before you decide.

First, you have time to describe your concern. The professional then reviews the relevant information and carries out the assessment that is appropriate for your situation.
Before the visit ends, you can ask questions about what was found, what information may still be needed and which next steps are available.
How to prepare for your appointment
Bring any previous reports, images or results you consider relevant, together with a list of current medicines or treatments. Writing down your main questions can also help you make better use of the visit.
Previous tests are not required to book. If you do not have them, the consultation can still begin with your history and current concerns.
